Made from 100% wild-foraged Shagbark Hickory bark, slow-roasted on our farm and finely ground into a warm, aromatic spice. SWEETBARK draws out something unexpected: sweet aromas of vanilla, toffee, malt and toasted wood—not smoke.
Bake it into something comforting, stir it into a sauce, season roasted vegetables or brew a cup of hickory tea. From the first aroma to the last bite, this remarkable ingredient will change everything you thought you knew about hickory.
At the heart of SWEETBARK is the Shagbark Hickory, one of few trees to naturally shed its bark. Rooted in Native traditions and cherished for centuries, hickory bark connects us to a longer story of finding food and flavor in the world around us.
We gather the naturally fallen bark then slow-roast it to draw out aromas of vanilla, toffee, malt and toasted wood. Finely ground, it becomes SWEETBARK: a single-ingredient spice with a character all its own.
This is the ingredient at the heart of our hickory teas and syrups. SWEETBARK brings it directly into your kitchen, ready to become part of your own recipes and discoveries.
First crafted on our farm. You won't find this anywhere else.
Ingredients: 100% roasted Shagbark Hickory bark
Nothing added. The sweet aromatics come from the bark itself.
All bark is foraged by hand on our 22-acre family farm in Long Valley, New Jersey. We gather only what naturally falls and never pull from or harm the trees, which provide vital habitat for wildlife.
Beyond its flavor, Shagbark Hickory bark contains naturally occurring minerals, including calcium, manganese, magnesium and zinc.
SWEETBARK is highly aromatic when dry. To bring out its fuller flavor, mix it into ingredients such as tomato, dairy, spirits, butter or oil. A finishing sprinkle adds another layer of aroma.
Brew: Add ¼ teaspoon to 8 oz of boiling water or milk for a hickory tea or latte.
Bake: Add 1–2 teaspoons to a batch of baked goods for notes of vanilla, toffee and toasted wood.
Mix: Stir into ketchup or tomato paste for an unexpected barbecue or steak sauce. Blend into cream cheese for a sweet, aromatic dip.
Make: Create your own seasoned salt or infused sugar.
Season: Coat meat or vegetables before grilling, roasting or sautéing.
Finish: Sprinkle over whipped cream, ice cream, cheese plates or French toast.
